Microscopical
Society of Southern California
2011 Workshop Program |
Workshops are held on the first Saturday of every month starting at 9am. The venue rotates between Ken Gregory's residence (map and directions) and Izzy Lieberman's residence (map and directions). As usual, this is a chance for good friends and fellow microscopists to talk about our favorite subject. You are invited to bring any manner of items related to microscopy to share it with the fellowship. If you have something you would like to sell, please feel free to bring it and set it up at the sales table. All are encouraged to participate and join in the fun. The workshop will finish at about noon, at which point we will retire to lunch in the local Coco’s.

2011 "Hands-On" Practical Workshops
On occasion the Society also holds "hands-on" practical workshops, typically on a quarterly basis. Details will be posted as the program is firmed up. The MSSC has an ongoing need for facilitators of these "hands-on" workshops. If you are interested in delivering a workshop please contact the Program Chair (see Contacts)
Forthcoming events:
Saturday, October 8, 2011, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Special hands-on "Clean a Microscope" workshop. Instruction from MSSC's most experienced microscopist, Alan deHaas. The workshop will cover methods and techniques, as well as identifying the best tools and supplies to keep your microscope clean and healthy. Alan will supply most of the material - toilet paper, alcohol, acetone, grease, swabs, lens cloths, objective pliers et cetera - and in case of lamp repair, a soldering pencil, solder, wire stripper, meter. It would be a good idea if some in the group would bring jeweler's screwdrivers, and a 1/8" and 1/4" regular blade, and a #1 and #2 phillips screwdrivers. Someone should supply paper towels and it would be good to have small containers for parts. It is bad enough looking for screws on a floor, we do not want to do that on a lawn! It is not necessary for everyone to provide tools. We can share equipment, but individual parts containers are mandatory. Rubber air bulbs use for blowing air would be helpful, this is preferable to the compressed air cans.
